Advancing health research in Malawi and beyond
Message From the Director
“ Nobody can explain how the great Egyptian Pyramids were constructed. From Stone Age through Iron Age to Modern Civilisation humans have developed tools to enable their survival at every stage of their lives. These delicate inventions are studied and crafted by a small section of their populations and passed on to subsequent generations for improvement in line with changing lifestyles. This means humans are Researchers and Developers by nature. Being a researcher therefore is not for the selected few. Anybody can become one by interest and learning from the other craftsmen. According to the World Health Organisation- WHO western countries have up to 400 full time health researchers per million population while Africa has 7 per million population. This discrepancy can only be levelled through deliberate effort to evoke research career development among the young science students in Africa. In Malawi CREAMS strives to partner the government, universities and their partners to develop the next generation of health researchers for the country beyond the current miserable statistics. Welcome to putting the future of strengthening Malawian health research ecosystem into your own hands.
