Research Conferences; Why do they Matter?

Academic conferences present valuable opportunities to learn about cutting edge research, meet new people, and build strong professional relationships with others in your field. The Africa CDC’s Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA) is one of the unique African-led platforms for leaders across the continent to reflect on lessons learned in health and science, and align on a way forward for creating more resilient health systems.

Between November 27 and 30, 2023, the CPHIA held its second international conference in Lusaka Zambia the theme of “Breaking Barriers, Repositioning Africa Within the Global Health Architecture”. The Conference attracted thousands of guests from all over the world. Recognizing its value, Both the Director, Dr. Thomas Nyirenda, and the research government Officer, Dr. Adriano F. Lubanga attended the conference. Dr. Thomas Nyirenda, who is also working with EDCTP was one of the key speakers during the conference.

Quality Data, Beta Evidence

As research Institute, CREAMS recognize the catastrophic effects that poor quality data has on the quality of evidence generated. As results, CREAMS recently embarked on protocol-based training for all its research assistant. In February, Dr. Adriano Focus Lubanga, our lead researcher and principal in a study titled; “A Comprehensive Evaluation of Antimicrobial Medicines Dispensing Practices and Regulatory Frameworks in Community Pharmacies in Lilongwe, Malawi” embarked on a three days training for the data collectors. The three days training focused on protocol familiarization, training on the data collecting tools and reporting. The research assistant was also trained in mixed methods approach and simulated client study approach as the study employed both quantitative and qualitative approach as well as simulated client study approach.
